URGENT
Dear Friends of the Den,
We are writing to let you know that the Tenters who have been sheltering at the former Ambulance parking lot have been given notice by the Town of Creston to vacate the premises. We suspected this might happen once the new business in the old Fire Hall was ready to open but we expected the Town to suggest an alternate location (on one of the several other town-owned properties). They have not done this.
People have the legal right to shelter on public property when no other option is available to them.
As a result, we have tried to help our unhoused folks look for places to pitch a tent on public property where they will be somewhat secure and will not be told to move each morning. If they had any other options they would go there.
We will likely put out a call this week for help from our Friends of the Den to dismantle the existing camp and help set up in a new location.
As an alternative… If you or anyone you know has private property that is walkable to the town center where you think tenters might be accommodated for the next several months, please let us know.
IF YOU HAVE A TRUCK AND/OR WOULD LIKE TO HELP IN ANY WAY THIS WEEK PLEASE CONTACT ME OR ONE OF THE DEN BOARD MEMBERS. We will likely be sorting, raking, making dump runs, and transporting possessions to new locations.
THE DEADLINE TO MOVE IS WEDNESDAY, MAY 7.
