Dear Friends of the Den,
First thank you so much to our many volunteers who are helping to keep our unhoused neighbors safe, fed, warm and dry – at least as much as can be expected when people are sleeping outdoors in the rain, wind and cold. Karen and her team have been providing lunches, snacks and drinks for ten people, every day since our last meeting. Our unhoused folks are always friendly, appreciative, respectful and very attentive to keeping their campsite clean and calm. Many of you are talking to friends and neighbors to spread the word about the work the Den is doing to help get these folks into shelter as soon as possible. We continue to make presentations to community groups. We have submitted a number of requests for grants and additional funding. Many Creston citizens have written letters to the Town of Creston to urge them to work with the Den and BC Housing in establishing an indoor shelter (specifically the former Ambulance building) as soon as possible.
Tomorrow, the Town of Creston’s Report on Extreme Weather Response will be presented to Town Council at 4 pm in chambers (lower level of the Town building). Please come. Mayor DeBoon invited all of us at our last Friends of the Den meeting. This report is crucial to the well-being of Creston’s unhoused and we should be there as a determined community group of volunteers to hear from the Town directly.
Thank you as always for your interest in and compassion for the unhoused.
